Valley Of The Sun Stage Race 2018 Team PossAbilities on all podiumsAlfonso Garibay
My first professional stage race of the year as a Loma Linda Team PossAbilities Athlete in the Paralympic Training Program. When all was said and done I earned 1st place Time Trial, 2nd place Road Race, and 1st place Criterium. All my hard work in training and lifestyle changes paid off thanks to God. Very grateful and honored to be part of an amazing team.
I was very strong raced well among a field of great competitive athletes from all over, Paralyzed Veterans of America Racing, Canada, and across the USA all came together to race hard. It was a great time despite a few minor issues with my travels too Arizona from my home in California. I had a flat tire and some issues with hotel but got thru it and ended up doing my race openers at around 1am the day before first stage, the Time Trial race. I had no spare in my wagon since I had used it to replace the flat on the drive into Phoenix. Pedro Payne and my friend and teammate Del where very gracious and helpful they made sure I made it to all the races since I had no time to get a new spare tire so they followed me to make sure I would not be stranded. I really appreciate that. Huge thanks to both. Huge thanks to Pedro Payne for being an awesome pit crew for us as well. Now that is teamwork that makes the dream work.
All of Team PossAbilites athletes raced very well and we represented in all podiums over the race weekend. Shout out to Brett Richards who had a very strong opening race as well earning 2nd place at the Time Trial. Jenna Rollaman also did awesome pulling a great Time Trial and 1st place podiums over the race weekend. Great racing by all. Looking forward to going back next year.
