When is the Off Season?Chris Sproule
Many people have often asked me when my off-season is? My answer…never! I have two seasons…the racing season and the training season. If you are not working hard in the training season then you will not have the results you want in the racing season. I always get a nervous feeling in my stomach during the training season when I think that someone may be doing more than me or working harder than me. If they are working harder than me in the training season, then they will likely beat me in the racing season…that’s just the way it is. So, while I am continually training or racing, it is also important to mentally and physically recover and this is usually done easiest in the training season. Physical recovery may only take a day or two but mental recovery from a full racing season with weeks on the road traveling and lots of racing is also very important. Sometimes you just need to get off the bike for a week, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy life. This is a good thing! A week off the bike will not derail Olympic dreams. Personally, it revitalizes me, refocuses me, and gets me re-motivated to achieve my cycling goals.
