Pensacola Cycling Classic 3rd place overall H-3 Alfonso GaribayAlfonso Garibay
Pensacola Cycling Classic on September 14-15 was my last stage race for my racing season. I was my first time doing Pensacola Cycling Classic stage race and considering the level of competition that showed up to race. I am very pleased with my performance despite having made a few mistakes all the hard work and effort I put into my training kicked in and I performed just as I had trained. Mechanical issues and all. The first race was a Time Trial in the beautiful but very humid Pensacola Beach. Literally next to the beach, white sand and blue green clean looking water made it very fun and scenic race. I was one of four out of 30 handcyclist’s to go sub seven minutes time on stage 1 the Time Trial. My time for this race was 6:59 with an average speed of 25.78mph. I earned 3rd place in my class of H-3 coming in 21 seconds behind Brandon Lyons.
The Road Race is where I earned 4th place not bad for the first time seeing this course, The Road Race was fun and challenging as it was on the same day as the Time Trial giving only a few hours to eat relax and drive to the Road Race which was about 1 hour away from the Time Trial course. For the Critirium I came back strong to close out the series and earn 3rd place overall in my class. It was a fun, technical, and fast course. Overall I had a great time representing my Team PossAbilities and learned a lot. Looking forward to going back next year and doing better. God Bless.
