Be thankful to God for your healthAlfonso Garibay
I spent a week in the hospital in an ICU unit starting June 3rd and thru my birthday. I went to Loma Linda ER via ambulance. In almost 28years of spinal cord injury besides the initial injury. I have never felt anything this severe to the point where I could almost do nothing. I was admitted to hospital and later diagnosed with severe case of labyrinthitis with nystagmus due to inner ear inflammation with no actual cause determined. They did CT scan, MRI, and some blood work. Everything came back clear no brain damage no problems of any sort thank God. Prior to this I have never had any symptoms or even knew this existed. I could not do anything for the first 3 days everything was spinning and felt very weak the worst feeling ever very scary along with the spinning sensation and involuntary eye movement I had no energy and tried to sleep most of the time. I was released from hospital on June 11th barely able to move without falling from my wheelchair with no further treatment no medications only a referral to outpatient physical therapy twice a week for balance and to just let time heal. I have been doing my own therapy for balance here at home. I am slowly getting better the nystagmus stopped on June 13th thank God for that. But balance to this day is still not normal. I decided to not go to Nationals even though some days I feel almost normal I have others where I feel very tired and with bad balance I would not race like that and put others and myself in danger. Instead I am focusing on recovering completely and God willing will be back and stronger than ever. Good luck to all my fellow racers stay safe race hard and have fun. God Bless.
