2020 – Train, Train, and Train

I think that training is the obvious theme for the 2020 cycling season. With all racing on hold for now and for the foreseeable future, training is the focus. For me, I was able to spend a lot of time on the bike this year as cycling solo is socially distant. What I was grateful for most this year, besides health and happiness of my family and I, was the fact that I have an indoor trainer for my bike and a Smith Machine and Bowflex in my garage at home for weightlifting. As gyms shut down, I was able to make significant gains in strength because of my home gym. I felt very fortunate that I had access to it. The trainer at my house provided a great distraction from the realities of the world and hours spent on the trainer allowed me to put a huge dent on my Netflix “Shows to Watch” list. Staying motivated to train this year was not difficult. It was a very welcomed stress reliever and way to continue to make improvements over others who may not have access to gym equipment during lockdown. The keys…stay positive, work hard, and find different and/or new ways to train at home. It was a great chance to try new things. Maybe it’s a new routine or even different ways of using equipment you have in a new way. The training continues as we slowly roll into 2021 and I am excited to see how my improvements in training translate to racing.
