US paracycling Open

Racing is in full swing for 2021 and the first big race of the season is the US paracycling open held in Huntsville Alabama April 17-18. I was excited to finally be back to racing with americas top paracyclists in this stacked event. The 2 day race consisted of a 15 km time trial and a 48.4 km road race. I was feeling great and in top form and I was ready to race is it a race. April 17th was the time trial and the course was a rolling hills course which suited me very well. I was able to put down a really fast time of 22 minutes and 24 seconds averaging 24.4 mph which would prove to be the 4th fastest time of any handcycle on the day Grabbing me a 3rd place finish in the men’s H4 category. The road race was on the same circuit as the time trial and we would do 4 laps At 12.1 kilometers per lap. The road race turned out to go just as well as the time trial solidifying that my form was in top notch for this race. I was able to some solid work with pacing the race and working with fellow handcyclists and paralympian Oz Sanchez. Cruising across the line with a time of just over an hour and 14 minutes it grabbed me another 3rd place finish in the mens H4 category and my second podium for this race. Im thrilled to continue building on this performance and excited my my next race which will be my first world cup in Osend Belgium in May.
