2021 Road Nationals – Road RaceChris Sproule
This year’s road race was a 32km course that started with a controlled start on a very steep, 8%, downgrade that we would have to climb to the finish line. It was a large rectangular course that was mostly up on two sides and down on two sides. The weather was warm but good for racing and the roads were fast and well maintained. I started off strong and managed to work with others to stay towards the front. I ended up falling off the back but linked up with others to close the distance to the leaders. The finish up the hill was a grind and you could see riders getting stacked up…some moving forward and some moving backward. I finished strong and ended up getting 9th which was a solid result. I was happy to say that even after a year and a half off, I was still able to make the top 10 at the National Championships. I can’t wait for next year!
