First Race of The Season Complete!

The first race of the season is complete and was a fantastic success. The Valley of the Sun Stage Race was a great opportunity to prepare for the upcoming international race season which starts in April. I used the event to try out a more intentional nutrition approach planning all macros for a few days leading up to, and while we were at the event. In partnership with the Team USA nutritionist we planned each meal and snack and I was able test things out. I also started working with Team USA’s sports psych program and tried a few new techniques to manage race day anxiety. Add to all that some great training thus far in the season, and we had a very successful event. I set a few personal records and gained the confidence to keep pushing harder.

The Time Trial was a very flat out and back course requiring an almost all out effort on the way out given the strong winds. I was able to secure the fastest TT result of the handcyclists! The Road Race was a fun course with some climbs involved where I was able to start the race by working on a few new techniques within the peloton and then put a few moves in to secure the win after a 10 minute finishing climb. Lastly, the criterium was a blast with a lot of fantastic opportunities to practice bike handling. After crashing at the end of last season this was was the perfect scenario to take some turns a very high speeds to get my confidence back.
