Zonal Championship and World Cup wrap up

The last event to qualify for Paris was the zonal championship in Brazil. Unfortunately I got eliminated. I caught covid on the way there and was performing pretty well under the circumstances with 4 wins in saber and 1 loss, but I gassed out and got eliminated in my first DE. Then had to do a double event and do saber team later in the same day haha. Teams went really well and I beat everyone I went up against and we took silver overall, losing the final match 45-40. It’s the closest the US men’s team has ever come to winning a zonal championship :). After the double event my arm was wrecked so I didn’t have the tip control needed in epee and had a pretty rough day, losing 4 and winning 1. And I didn’t compete in the epee team event.

Then due to scheduling issues earlier in the season they combined our zonal championship with a World Cup so we went straight into another competition. I won 1 bout in saber and was neck and neck on two other bouts with really good guys so I’m happy with my performance. And I withdrew from epee and epee team. Now I’m back home trying to kick the last of the infection and taking a break before heading out to the final regular season competition in Poland.

Trying to qualify for Paris was a mad dash and I’ve been going hard for almost a year so I’m looking forward to a nice break from July to November to recover and train and work on my next masters degree back home :).
