Injured Before Camp
Hello people,
Today I’m sharing about the doubts that athletes always have in their minds, specially when injured.
My training was coming along nicely, increasing intensity and frequency of workouts. Then on Sunday morning, body is sore from previous days, and cold, and I did a stupid movement / motion -bending & twisting my back to move a light piece of furniture, then I feel a pop! Pain came in instantly and it got worse as the days went by… not good. Specially because in 3 weeks I would be flying to Chile for some intense physical days.
I was so scared. For 3 days I couldn’t even bend to put on my socks, was thinking I had a herniated disc or something bad. Went to see a good physical therapist at The Lab (gym I go to) and he reassured me it was just a sprained muscle. With some specific stretches and light exercises, I slowly got back to normal and was OK to fly and train/compete in Chile. But I came very close to pulling the trigger and cancelling all of it.
What had happened is that I slimmed down a bit and with less volume on my leg I was a bit shorter on the prosthesis side — enough to throw my posture and back off balance.
In the future I just have to be more mindful of my body alignment. And like a good friend of mine said once: you don’t have to get ready if you stay ready. Although, that’s easier said than done…
Stay focused people.
