Steamboat Springs USA
Howdy friends!
Coach Mancha & I were in Steamboat, CO, for a World Cup of Para Snowboard Cross. This was a “last minute” addition to the calendar and first time US had a Para Snowboard race since 2017 (a year before I started)!
I got there in not the best shape, still weak & recovering from a Flu that took my whole family down. All other athletes had been there for a week, for a race course training camp. Myself? -I got there a day before the Official Training. Then race the very next day. Not ideal… but we fought with the arms we had, and I did OK considering. 1st race was a 5th place and 2nd race was a 4th, almost podium!! I was pretty delighted with that!
And the adventures continue… the 3rd race would be NorAm, the national /continental race for US, which I’d participate in to get more training on the course/racing. Except, the universe had other plans; the night before the race I got food poisoning and spent unpleasant times loosing everything I had inside from both ends. I had zero energy for racing and lost a few pounds —the next few days were spent recovering and doing some lite training, in preparation for the Worlds in Canada. Was also forcing myself to eat more, so I would fit in my prosthetics (rather than having them fall off me).
It all worked out in the end, but it was a rough few days!
