3 weeks til qualification

3 weeks til qualification

Hi there, it has been almost a month since my last blog post. I figured I would get it done earl this month as I’ll be posting right after the first big race of the year in Huntsville, Alabama at the end of the month. There is a time trial in Huntsville to determine qualification for the two world cup events in May. Basically, if you ride fast enough you go with Team USA and if you do not you take yourself. I hope I can qualify to race with Team USA at these events. The biggest factor isn’t how good of shape I am in it is how fast the standard for my class will be. That should be coming out in the next couple weeks. All I have to say is they need to start selecting candidates that will get medals or post top 5 performances. Fingers crossed at hoping for the best. It makes everything so much easier traveling with Team USA. Since I am the lowest functioning athlete among the national team and competing for the USA at events it makes life so much easier. Regardless, the goal is to ride faster than I have in previous years on this course. My form and fitness is looking great right now. The only obstacle I currently am facing is getting my new bike completely dialed in. I put a 75 cm fork on as the 72.5 cm was great on the trainer but on the road I was having jumps or dead spots in my pedal stroke. I cannot move my pelvis any closer so giving the longer fork a try to see how it all plays out. The first attempt today was not bad but I’ll give it a second try tomorrow and we’ll see how the ability to handle higher watts without fatigue is. Note, I have been pushing more watts than previously so definitely good news.

The weather in Phoenix has been very nice. I have been outside on the bike a few times and looking forward to much more soon. I am about to finish teaching an 8 week semester this weekend and the onto nutrition. Nutrition is a great class to teach as I love the subject matter and most all of the class does not involve grading papers. Love it when the computer grades the papers. I hope to have some pictures to share soon. I have been training indoors a lot so nothing exciting to take a photo of. Will be outside more soon and pics to come. You’ll hear from me more after the Huntsville race.
