World Cup Qualifier

World Cup Qualifier

The 2025 season is in full swing and it’s time to see if I got what it takes to qualify for another Team USA world cup roster. There is sometimes a misconception that if you’re on the national team that you automatically make the world cup roster. This is far from a reality. Every year a qualification event is held to determine who will represent the USA in the paracycling world cups. In order to qualify for the roster you have to place top 6 in a rankings list that is based off of your category standard. The standard that I am referring to is how fast you should be moving per kilometer in your respective category. For the men’s H3 class to be at 100% of your standard you need to complete a kilometer in 1:38:30. Each paracycling category has their own standards and depending on how fast you go will determine where you land on the overall rankings list. I will place the finalized rankings list below and you will be able to see how fast each rider was compared to his standard.

Huntsville Alabama would once again be the setting for the qulaification race. The course is a 14.5 kilometer course that all of us from the USA are quite similar with considering this will be the 4th time racing on this course. It is a fast course with lots of technical turns and a few short punchy hills. I’ve always done well on this course and on this day it was another solid performance. I was able to complete the 14.5 kilometer course in 00:21:48 with an avg speed of 24.6 mph. After the race I had to wait for the rest of the male athletes to finish in order to see where i stacked up on the rankings list. Hours past before the rankings list was finally posted. Once it was the top 3 spots of the rankings list were dominated by all h3 men Including myself. It was a huge sigh of relief knowing I had once again for the 4th year in a row qualified for the world cup roster. Now it’s time to get back to training and continue to build fitness with the hopes of having success overseas.
