Big changes in July

Big changes in July

Hello everyone! July is almost over already.

Another month and another series of big changes. I started training at a new fencing club in epee which is the best club in the US and one of the best clubs in the world. Epees are quite a bit heavier than saber so competing against top tier talent on a regular basis as well as the increased workload should really take me to the next level. I am now starting the push for 2028 with increased training and trying to tie up my remaining weak spots in my musculature through pilates and cardio conditioning. My plan is to be fully developed by the first qualification event in October of 2026.

Speaking of events, there’s a few on the horizon. There is a North American Cup in Salt Lake City in October I might go to as well as a World Cup in Thailand in November that I am planning on. I have nearly completed my classification paperwork and it is looking promising to change from category A (most able bodied) to category B (mid tier). As I progress and find limits to what I can do it is clear I am in the middle of the B category but many of my injuries are unusual so the rules do not clearly address them. I should know in Thailand which category I am in.

Other than that work and life go on and time really flies these days! The Paralympics have been a goal of mine since I first learned of them shortly after my wreck, and now almost 20 years to the day later they are in reach!
