Lactate Testing

Things have been going well with the new coach and training has been relatively good. A few weeks ago, with the help of my wife, I was able to complete an extensive lactate test. The purpose of the lactate test is to take blood samples at different training intensities in order to figure out the accumulation of lactate in your blood. From these results an accurate FTP can be set and going forward i can look back at prior lactate tests to see if improvements are being made. The goal is to continue to train my body to adapt at different training zones in hopes of increasing vo2 max overall. The higher the vo2 max the higher the power output is basically what it breakes down to. All of this is still rather new to me so I’m still learning as I go but I’m excited to see how this new way of training can help me become faster. I have another lactate test scheduled for the beginning of September so I will know pretty soon if I am improving. My guess is this next test will have better results than the first test due to the fact that I didnt train all that much for six weeks prior to the first test.
As of now I’m also still dealing with the injury I sustained back in April but my hopes are still that it will all get figured out. I’ve been recently trying different types of shots in my back to see what works best for aches and pains. The doctors at Loma linda have been working tirelessly with me to do what’s in my best interest to keep me active and training. The latest shot I had was an epidural cortisone shot that seemed to be most effective so far. With another doctors appointment coming up on August 4th I should have more answers on the direction we will go next. So for now I practice patience with this whole process and will continue to pray for a full recovery. Either way ill be training through this whole process until I’m told otherwise.
