2 Weeks til GO TIME!!!

2 Weeks til GO TIME!!!

The subject is true! We will be leaving in less than 2 weeks to the 2005 World Championships in Belgium. Just over 3 weeks until the first race or time trial. I took fifth in the time trial in 2023 and 3rd in the road race. I’m posting better numbers now with power then I was then so fingers crossed I’m hoping for the best!

The time trial is going to be just over 7.2 MI. It doesn’t seem that long and I think finishing times will be around 25 minutes. I’m hoping to average over 100 Watts but would be happy with a ride in the high 90s. It almost sounds like I’m talking about the temperature here but grateful the temperature should only be in the mid-70s, not 100 plus degrees as it is here in Phoenix currently. Thank goodness for zwift indoors:-) I have been training to go 30 minutes as fast as I can. I’m still training for the road race but the time trial has been my major focus. Going to do my best to keep my composure and confidence.

The road race should be about four laps of the same course we are doing our time trial on. As mentioned above, I feel that time trial is more my suit this year but we shall see how it goes. I have been more efficient and I’m much more happy with my bike setup this year then back in 2023 where I previously competed at the world championships. I’m hoping I saved five watts or more with positioning and Equipment changes. That can be more than 5% of my total output. That’s big! The ultimate goal for the time trial and road race is to take a top three finish in either or both. I noticed the recent time trial effort of one of my competitors and he posted his wattage. We’re basically at the same level. The only advantage I have I feel is that I weigh 20 or more pounds less than he does.  It’s not all apples to apples because his best numbers are 5 to 8 watts better than mine but the weight difference makes us even.

Training and slowly preparing the class at the University which starts tomorrow have been my primary focus. The heat really took a toll on my body the past few days as 118°, 112, and 110 is rough. Even though I’m indoors most the day you can still feel that heat. The new air conditioner is helping greatly. Performance is trial and error. I was recently was reminded that too much sugar without fatt or protein can really spike my blood glucose and cause it to crash quickly. There’s a lot to be said about that Snickers:-)

Lecture starts tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to teaching the exercise prescription and assessment course over the next 16 weeks. It follows the American College of sports medicine guidelines which is top tier as someone wants to work in a hospital setting or medical fitness. You’ll hear from me the first few days of September and how the World Championships went. Send some good vibes!
