September training

September training

Hello! Another month in the books.

August and September was a lot of consistent work and a little bit of travel for events. Fencing, pilates, diet and actual job stuff. I did get to go to a training camp for 3 days in Washington and fence multiple paralympians and top rated people in my division and wow! The training is really paying off. I did about 8 months straight of saber and in my saber bouts the skill level was almost even with one of the best in the world, and the athleticism was slightly better on my end. I still have a lot to improve on both and over a year to do it. My epee was not as good but I think after a 6 month training cycle it will be close, and due to the epee being much heavier my saber speed and athleticism will still improve.

Going forward my plan is to continue training epee as much as possible, and swap pilates lessons for spin class now that I have fixed a lot of the imbalances that were popping up. I also recently became aware that the velodrome is looking to recruit people and I nearly qualified for velodrome in 2016. I am in much better shape now and still have 20 years of cycling experience. So I am going to try and double up my cardio and power training for fencing with velodrome training and see what my numbers look like in a year. It may be possible to qualify in both and I intend to find out!

My next competition is a North America Cup in early October where I will get to see how I stack up against some of the US team. It’ll be interesting for sure!
