31 years later
So, it’s been a bit over a month since I last shared information on my blog. It was just Thanksgiving a couple days ago and also 31 years since the accident that put me in a wheelchair. This year was quite hard for whatever reason. I actually know why but I let it hit too hard this year. I was able to go spend time with my mom, step dad, and their neighbors who are from our hometown as well. It’s always good seeing them and spending time together. What hit me hard is that I’m seeking a companion and it has not been an easy road to find someone who I want to have in my life as the majority of the people I’m interested in are not interested in me. That’s not your problem though, that’s on me. I really value people to maximize their abilities and value health as wealth. Staying busy with teaching, training, learning, and trading stocks definitely keep my mind away from some mental pain that I experience.
Training is going well. I’m actually really surprised at the ease I’ve been having of producing really good wattage on my hand bike. I’m only riding three or four days per week right now and had to take a couple weeks off of strength training to allow my left shoulder to heal. Extreme tightness in my bicep and it was pulling on the tendons at the origin and near the insertion of the long head. It’s getting better though. I can almost transfer in and out of my wheelchair without pain. It doesn’t hurt too bad when I’m riding and as it’s been lessening it’s easier to produce a bit more power on the left side. I’ve been really lucky not to have injuries and this is the first one that’s made me modified some activities. Pretty sure I know what caused it and I’ve been modifying and stretching.
We’re ramping up for the 2026 season and just over a month. I don’t think I’ll have a first race until the end of January or first week or two of February but taking my time to get there. I’m not in a rush and I want to ease into it. Last year was a big year. I want to make sure I go into May in top form. I don’t know yet whether I’m going to Thailand in March but I hope I am. It’ll be the first time they’ve had a World Cup event there. It’ll definitely be an experience as the people there are definitely kind and everything is so inexpensive. This year I want to medal every event I compete in internationally. There was only one medall event this year I missed out on and that was the time trial at the world championships.
Other than the above the PossAbilities Christmas party is coming up in a couple weeks and I’m looking forward to that. I will go to Colorado Springs for 2 days before that for a National Team Summit. One more week of course work to finish the semester and I will then have a month off before returning to teaching the spring semester where I will have two courses.
