New year and new season!
Hello! It’s that time again.
We started the new year and this season is starting to take shape. I’m going to be competing more and trying to get another 10 solid months of training in before the qualification cycle starts at the end of October.
For this season I am going to focus on epee exclusively since I have access to the best epee club in the nation, but little to no saber access. I’ll train from now through to the NAC in February which is in Cincinnati Ohio, and decide a few days before if I can go to that. After that will be a World Cup in Budapest, Hungary in mid March which will be an amazing trip! Then another World Cup in Florida and one in Thailand, with the year ending with a zonal in Brazil.
The zonal championship will be the biggest point event for the season and the first event for qualification, so that is by far the most important one. My goal is to go up another 5-10lb in muscle and really develop my conditioning and recovery so that I can operate in my top gear in every match at the competition. Only competing in epee also has the strategic benefit of saving my energy for one event instead of splitting it between two.
Aside from NACs and world cups I’ll be working my way up to 2 a day training sessions. I’m aiming to do fencing 3x a week, pilates 2x a week, then a zone 1-2 cardio session in either ballroom dance or yoga in the evenings. Also bringing back the sauna to get my heat tolerance and recovery up.
It’ll be a busy training schedule and a busy year but the work is worth it!
