February NAC

February NAC

Another month and another competition!

This one was in Cincinatti, Ohio. It was small but the best in the US were there. I had a couple excellent matches where I really started to shine and found my style, ultimately taking silver. We are early in the season and early into the last phase of the multi year development process so things are looking very promising. The biggest take away here was that I saw how to win using my abilities, not just doing moves my coaches showed me. It’s very different and relies on a lot of speed and power which most fencers can’t match. It’s also very exciting to watch!

The plan now is to focus on sparring and developing my match skills, drilling to work on incorporating my legs better, and continuing to put on speed and power and accuracy. There’s also competition day refinements such as hydrating and fueling better, and eating better on the road. This season will be a little busy with events in February, March, April, May, and then a break with 2-3 more starting in September. And it’ll end with our first olympic qualifier in Brazil in November.

Overall I am very happy with my performance and this was my best finish so far.
