With the UCI Paracycling World Championships just around the corner, I’ve arrived in Flagstaff, Arizona, for a three-week altitude training camp as I make my final preparations to represent Team USA in Huntsville, Alabama.
Flagstaff sits at nearly 7,000 feet above sea level, making it one of the premier endurance training destinations in the world. Training at elevation challenges the body because there is less oxygen available with every breath. Over time, the body adapts by producing more red blood cells and becoming more efficient at delivering oxygen to working muscles. These adaptations can improve endurance, delay fatigue, and enhance performance once racing back at lower elevations.
This camp is an important part of my build-up to World Championships. Every workout is focused on arriving in Alabama as fit and prepared as possible. The hard work has already been months in the making, and this final training block is about fine-tuning my fitness and giving myself the best opportunity to perform at my highest level when it matters most.
I’m grateful for the continued support from Team PossAbilities, my coach Ralf Lindschulten, my family, and everyone who has been part of this journey. I’m excited to see what these next few weeks of training will bring as I prepare to compete against the best handcyclists in the world.
