As I mentioned in the past, there’s a lot to uncover from the Paralympics, and I so often remember parts that could be a whole separate chapter, and that’s what I’m doing right here.
I haven’t told anyone this, because I was living in the moment and trying to have my best performance ever, but I secretly thought that these races in Cortina would be my last…
Let’s throw it back to Beijing, 2022 Paralympics. I met with the president of the Snow Federation and the team, and they said, back then, that they would support me for another Paralympic cycle, but then I’d be done.
(To race at this level I need help from PossAbilities and other supporters and sponsors, it’s not easy and it’s not cheap.)
Forward to the day I raced Banked Slalom in Cortina 2026. The president wanted to meet with me after the race and after lunch, he travelled specially to watch me compete. I thought that was it, they would “retire” me… as it turns out, he wanted to invite me to be the flag bearer in the closing ceremony, again!! I instantly broke down crying, sobbing, and gave him a tight hug!
And they wanna see me in France 2030, meaning, they’ll keep supporting my racing!! Better yet: the coordinators also told my wife and kids they want to see them again in France 2030, and the family is completely on board!
I know I am aging, but I still have so much to fight and race in me and I’m so excited to keep going!!
