Hello! It’s time to bevgin the September blog. Let me start off by saying there is great news! I took second place my time trial at the world championships. It was unexpected to be honest with all that has happened over the past few months and not having the most consistent training as I would like but I pulled it off! There was only a 15-second gap to first place which is very small margin. The Italian who typically wins didn’t deal with the heat in Alabama too well so he was not at his best. But, this gives me hope for the next two years. If I can perform better with some improved training and a couple adjustments to equipment I think I could have easily exceeded that 15 second Gap and even won by 30 seconds. Goals for next year! We’re going to be in France next year for the world championships. It’s actually a very long season coming up. I dropped out of the road race because the humidity level was really high and the heat was too much for me. I think I could have performed better if I would have prepared a little better before the event but it really didn’t even feel as if the ice bath did much before the road race. There wasn’t any ice in it this time around so the cooling effect was not nearly as good. The time trial is the event I need to continually perform well in as it’s the only event I have in the Paralympics where there is a chance of getting a medal. Doing well on the road race brings points to the team but that is not an event at the Paralympics where I would do well in the way they combine our category and a higher functioning category without factoring.
I arrived back home about 5 days ago and was back to teaching already. Only having to teach two days per week is helpful but at the same time I feel like I should be doing more. I was supposed to have three classes but the university allowed me to do just one since I need to make sure the turnaround and preparation for Thailand at the end of January is good. That’s the challenge over the next few weeks to try and find tune training to allow rest but also maintenance and progression. It is exciting though as there are two very busy years coming up. 2025 and 26 went by pretty quickly. 2027 and 28 I believe will come quickly as well. It’s nice to have some things to look forward to. As always grateful for possabilities and Loma Linda. Until next time..
