Like Equipment An Athletes Body Needs Maintenance

No matter the athlete or how healthy you live your life you will need medical maintenance on your body in some type of way. You will also need more than a doctor, you need a support team behind you to get you through it. Looking forward to continued success in 2019

Grateful and honored to have been selected again to be part of Loma Linda University Team PossAbilites as a sponsored athlete. This will be my second year with the team as handcyclist in H-3 category. I had a great 2018 racing season thanks to the support from Team PossAbilites. I would like to give special thanks to Cotie Williams, Pedro Payne, Maria Garcia and my cycling coach Rick Babington. Looking forward to another great year with the team and [...]

New Bike

The past year and a half has been challenging. I didn’t get to race at all really due to recovering from a bike accident and a car accident, which both involved vehicles. I’ve been training nonstop in the gym and getting my equipment ready for the new race season. I finally got a handcycle I can call my own and I can’t wait to finally race in it. It’s been through many adjustments and probably needs a few more [...]

Fiesta Island Time Trial Champion Alfonso Garibay

I closed out my racing season on Sunday October 14th 2018 by earning the Fiesta Island 20k Individual Time Trial Series Championship in the challenged athletes category which includes cyclist’s that pedal with their legs not just arm powered handcyclist’s like me. The series consisted of 5 races thru out the year. I raced in all of them not an easy thing to do considering other races in and out of the state of California where I live, life commitments, [...]

First Ride Back in the Handcycle

It’s been just about two years since I’ve been able to ride/train in a handcycle. As I continue to reach my peak and push boundaries, I’m constantly trying to train in all different areas. I’m beyond grateful to be able to train with some of my teammates. Zimri, Alfonso, and I had a great training ride along the Santa Ana River Trail from San Bernardino to Riverside and back. We even did a bonus climb up Mt. Rubidoux in [...]

Coast to Coast

Feeling excited and blessed to able to race a few more times this year before my season is over.  Thanks to God.  I am able to continue and pursue my passion with faith, hard work, and dedication.  After taking a short break on my return from USA Cycling Para Road Race & Time Trial National Championships on June 13 & 14 at Augusta, Ga. where I raced against some of the best in Nation and in the company of World [...]

Alfonso’s Summer Gains

Summer is definitely here 100 plus degree weather, took a little time off after Nationals but been back training hard for a couple weeks now in the gym and on the handcycle. Thanks to God feeling good and strong. It is my passion to train and continuously better myself physically and as a person.  Had a great time this past weekend riding with some PossAbilites teammates and members. A nice 62 mile cruise to Huntington Beach starting from Yorba [...]

Alfonso’s 2018 First Nationals

Thanks to Team PossAbilities I was able to go to my very first USA National Road Race and Time Trial Championships. Here is a little recap of how my race went. Despite the humidity it was an experience of a lifetime that I will forever cherish. First stage of Nationals, the Road Race, I earned 4th place in an intense and challenging race with many hills and chances to catch some really high speeds. The start of the race was [...]

TeamPossAbilities at 2018 Abilities Expo in Los Angeles

Good time representing Team PossAbilities at Ability Expo in L.A. Handed out lots of informative brochures about our programs and met a lot of cool people. We also talked about and showed our handcycles with my teammates Del and Jenna. Del and Jenna did a great job talking about our handcycles and I even did a little demo on how we get on and ride our handcycles.  #ThanksToGodForTheDailyGainz #TeamPossAbilites PossAbilities at LLUMC
