First World Cup in the USA!

We are just two weeks away from the first ever World Cup being hosted in the USA! I came back from Italy with two hard earned 5th place finishes and more things to think about! I've continued my typical idiosyncrasies of trying out new things and optimizing my set up around the margins. I can't wait to try things out and go to battle in Huntsville AL. It's going to be great to not have to adapt to the new...

First Race of The Season Complete!

The first race of the season is complete and was a fantastic success. The Valley of the Sun Stage Race was a great opportunity to prepare for the upcoming international race season which starts in April. I used the event to try out a more intentional nutrition approach planning all macros for a few days leading up to, and while we were at the event. In partnership with the Team USA nutritionist we planned each meal and snack and I...

Let the racing season begin!

Our first race of the season is coming up in just a few weeks. We will compete to add data to our applications for Team USA's roster heading to World Cup 1 this April in Italy! Team USA just wrapped up a camp in Southern California where I completed over 250 miles in 4 days through the mountains! The climbs were epic and the descents allowed me to practice taking turns over 40 miles and hour. Just what I needed...

Pushing Through Plateaus

I just wrapped up a 4 month winter training session focused on low intensity and long hours coupled with a strong strength training program. The last 3 weeks have shown this hard work has paid off! I have pushed through some old plateaus and set myself up to start high intensity interval training in better way than I imagined. My fitness levels have been measured at all time highs as a result of putting in more hours than I have...

Time to Reset and Train to Train

I've written in previous blogs about my goals post World Championships and how this time is meant to be a time to reset. This has been difficult for me, and I've had to change how I think about my training and up coming season. As much as I want to do what it takes to be better, my natural response to that isn't always what it should be. This is all another way of saying this period of reset is starting...

Back at It!

I've been super blessed that the healing since my crash at the world championships has come along better than expected. Follow-up x-rays showed the fractures have completely healed! So I'm back on the bike and working towards a slow rebuild of my fitness through longer rides at lower intensities. I find this hard as I enjoy going hard but I've likely peaked too early in the season the past few years and need to look at things differently. Now is a...

Reflections on the World Championships

The 2022 season has come to a close and I've returned from the 3rd World Cup and World Championships with a 4th and 7th place finish. Despite a fairly serious crash captured by the epic picture shown in this blog, I also came back a much more confident rider than when I left. My Time Trial performances were among the best of my career. I have learned at what point in the race I tend to drift in power output...

World Championships Bound!!!

This is my first post with Team PossAbilities and I couldn't be more excited. I'm relatively new to handcycling but not to international sport. The much younger version of myself has been to the Paralympics twice and earned two gold medals in wheelchair basketball. In 2017 I decided to see what was possible in handcycling. While I earned a few international medals I missed the Tokyo 2020 games by one spot. I am a firm believer that each individual...
