Happy New Year

Happy New Year

Well its that time of the year again where we say goodbye to last year and welcome in a new year with new beginnings. Last year was such a difficult year for so many of us and i know quite a few of us are looking forward to moving on to 2021including me. Now that 2021is here, I’m happy to say that this new year couldn’t have started off better with me being accepted to Team PossAbilities Paralympic program for the second year in a row. I’m so thankful to them for choosing to support me in my journey this next year of training and racing. to give a quick recap, 2020 proved to be a great year for me as far as my training and fitness goes. I credit this to great coaching and consistency with my workouts day in and day out. while most of my racing in 2020 was done alone on local courses I was able to attend one race in late august that had a small field of handcyclists and some able bodied riders alike. the event was created by my coach and fellow handcycle racer who decided to throw a race in his local town. It turned out to be a great event with a great time trial course that posted blistering fast times. this race really gave me hope posting a time of 27:57 on the 11.5 mile course with an average of 24.7 mph which was not far off in time to the other handcycle racers who were all currently on the national team for USA. I’m also happy to say that the race was conducted with all the riders health and safety being the main priority during this pandemic. I finished 2020 at a local time trial course in Piru California posting a time of 30:31 over 12.4 miles with an average of 24.4 mph. It felt so good to end 2020 in a positive way and crush 2 time trials in a row.
Now lets fast forward to 2021 which should prove to be another great year. With the added support from a great team like Team PossAbilities I’m hoping this will be my best year yet on the bike. I have a full year of racing planned which includes two selection events and two world cup races in Europe. One selection event held in April will determine who team USA takes to the world cups and the other selection event in July is for the Paralympics being held in august of 2021. Of course it will be very difficult but the plan is to do my best to be selected by the national team to travel to the world cups in Belgium and Italy being held in may. In July at the selection event for the Paralympics in Tokyo it is the goal to try and make the team, however it will be a longshot to make the team if I don’t try then I’m selling myself short. so please make sure to check back in on my blog for monthly updates on how my training and racing is going. I appreciate all the support and look forward to keeping everyone informed as to how my 2021 is going.
