Texas showdown coming soon!!!

Hello, it's time for my March blog post. I'm feeling a bit of the anxiety, nerves, but confident, that I will perform well in 2 weeks. The qualification race to compete as part of Team USA, consisting of a time trial and road race, will be April 6th and 7th in Bryan, TX. There has been a consistent improvement in speed and power so I am confident in the progression but always nervous before a race o significance. Only 6...

Broke the new standard!

You may be asking what the 'standard' is that I mentioned above. There is a time standard per kilometer that is used as a criteria to guide selection of the fastest cyclists for major events per category. The standard is getting faster year by year. It can be tough to beat on a regular basis. The fastest paracyclists set the times. Team USA has a panel that selects which courses are selected to take these times from. It is a...

A Great Start to 2024!

It has been a mostly great start to the 2025 racing season! I took 3rd in the time trial in Australia at the first world cup of the year. I took 4th in the road race as well. A 2nd and 3rd was very much within my ability but I was feeling sluggish while down under when it came to producing sustained power. It was very warm down there on one day of racing but grateful they started my...

29 years later….

Hi, and welcome to my post which is a few days late. I wanted to title this post 29 years later because the anniversary of the auto accident I was involved in was just a few days ago on November 27th. I honestly did not even remember the day was here. The first couple years post injury I was just hoping that day would bring a miracle. Well, I knew I was the one who was going to have to...

Already back at it!

Hi, last month I reported on my performance at the world championships in Scotland. Hard to believe 1.5 months has gone by. I took a couple weeks off the bike but then got on my ebike and started to train again. I was back in the gym immediately. I absolutely love strength training! My riding has been 30 minutes to 1.5 hours and mixed intensities. It is still an active-rest time for the next couple weeks. I am also most...

Best season thus far!!!

An end to the most successful season I have had in handcycling has come to an end. The world championships in Scotland last month was the way I wanted to end this season. I took 5th in the time trial and 3rd in the road race. I initially placed 4th in the road race but the 3rd place finisher was disqualified for using illegal wheels. This is great though because it provides Team USA with more points going...

Final countdown to Glasgow!

Here I am 5 days before heading off to Dumfries, Scotland to compete in the 2023 world handcycling championships. I am very much looking forward to competing for Team USA, against the other best H1's in the world, and putting in my best performances. This is the first time I have competed at any world championship event. I have shared my story previously but being suffering a spinal cord injury while on the US Cycling Team as an able-bodied individual...

Glasgow bound!

So, this is what's cool...... Wait for it....... I qualified for the world paracycling championships in Glasgow, Scotland. I really did it! Even though I teach at a university I have no idea how to use correct punctuation for the previous sentences. This would be why I don't teach English. Regardless, I am very excited about what's to come. This was one of my goals for the season. And, all 3 of the PossAbilities cyclists qualified...

World Cup 3 was a success!

World Cup 3 in Huntsville, Al, just concluded and I brought home two more bronze medals! Am I relieved you might ask? The answer is ABSOLUTELY! This was the first world cup event to ever happen in the United States. It's an honor to land a spot on the podium in your own country and be part of the accumulation of points Team USA needs to gain for Paris 2024 Paralympics. It is a great feeling to bring home two...

Belgium World Cup 2023 Report!

I am writing this post a bit late but with excitement! After competing for almost 9 years I brought home my first world cup medal finishing 3rd in the time trial. A huge thanks to PossAbilities and Loma Linda University for helping me in this accomplishment! The weather was perfect at 69-70 degrees, just a bit of wind 7mph or so, and no rain. Racing in Belgium anytime before summer is like gambling with the weather. I think the combination...
