Grateful for new opportunity!!!

The season has ended with a national championship victory in the time trial and road race in Chattanooga, TN. I am happy with how I performed but wish I had more appropriate gearing with a 12% grade hill on slick pavement. After returning home I was already planning out next season. The new season is many months away but the next two seasons are what counts in selection towards Paris 2024. The current goals for 2023 are to get top 5 placings and world cup events and qualify for the world championships.

I have a log history with cycling from the pre-spinal cord injury days. I won multiple national championships, raced among competitors that were raced in the Tour de France, and was a member of the US National Cycling Team at 16 years old. But, a spinal cord injury put my racing dreams on hold. I’m grateful for the opportunity to race again and continued involvement in the sport as a handcyclist. I’m also grateful for the support of PossAbilities. When I was young racing across the country my coach would say, “nothing but crank arms and derailleurs, Barry.” Those words stick with me 27 years later to stay focused.

I will update you all next month on my training and progress. F-O-C-U-S, Focus on One Course Until Success!
