First World Cup Win!

First World Cup Win!

This blog is a little late but time flies when you ride full time and work 2 jobs. Life can get away from us sometimes. Well, this year has been quite the experience and I’m eager to see what else is in store. This seems to be a recurring thing now that I’m going to the world cup in Oostende Belgium and doing well. Last year, I had one of my first ever world cup podium and coming back to Belgium this year my eyes were set on seeing if I could make it 2 times in 2 years. In all honestly, I really wasn’t expecting to be able to podium again this year. Competition continues to grow and get faster every year. It’s amazing how much the sport of handcycling has progressed since I first started racing. It’s so awesome to see each year, my competitors get faster but so do I. With speeds reaching an avg of almost 25 mile per hour in a time trial, it really has become much faster from when i first started racing and the averages were a few mile per hour slower. In the previous 2 years, I attended this competition as an “independent ” athlete meaning I raced but was not apart of the team USA roster. This year was different. This year, I made my first world cup roster for Team USA and I was going to get the chance to represent my country. To be able to wear the red white and blue colors while racing was an added boost of confidence and pressure that was welcomed. Like I said before I always shine at this race and this year was no different. I was able to grab my first ever world cup win in the time trial just 1.5 seconds in front of good friend and fellow USA teammate Brandon Lyons. It made for the first ever USA 1st and 2nd place podium finish in men’s H3 history. To say I was excited would have been a huge understatement. For the first time ever I was able to say I was fastest in the world on that day. It’s something I’ve only dreamed of since beginning my racing career over 12 years ago. I’m so thankful for all the support and encouragement I get from family and friends back home. I’m honored I get to bring home a medal to show all of them back home. I also can’t thank my sponsors at Team PossAbilities enough for all their help through these years and especially this one. Without Loma Linda University and Team PossAbilities none of this would be possible.
