October is almost gone.

October is almost gone.

It’s the day before Halloween here in AZ where it is in the 80’s still for day high’s and the 50’s for low’s. The weather is perfect! It is time to get back outside on the racing bike. I have been strength training and riding my ebike outside since the last week of August. I’ll ride an hour to hour and a half with occasional intervals. Getting out on my ebike is nice and a change. Teaching has been keeping me busy with a new class title Healthy Behaviors. It is more about future health professionals working with future clients and how to best communicate during a session to provide the most effective education with a combo of motivational interviewing, engagement skills, goal setting, and incorporating their professional knowledge in the mix. A big part of it is helping others learn to help themselves with the tools a clinician can provide. There is more to it but job satisfaction for the healthcare provider typically increases when patients are more compliant and making improvements because they understand how to manage their health more effectively.

Training for the fall/winter is going to be a bit different this year if I am selected to go race in Australia for the first world cup in January. World Cups are never in January. They are typically May to December. I think it is very doable to modify the training and bounce back within a couple weeks after Australia. There is a lot of travel, racing, and training to perform at my best for the Paralympic qualifications. Grateful to be here in AZ for pre-season training outdoors and with other handcyclists. I also beyond grateful for my association with PossAbilities. The organization has been integral to my trajectory this past year. I’m really looking forward to what’s to come in the coming season. I just want to get out and speed down the roads envisioning the upcoming season yet enjoying the scenery on my rides. And lastly, with the holiday’s coming it is a great reason to train more to burn off extra calories!!!
