A Great Start to 2024!

It has been a mostly great start to the 2025 racing season! I took 3rd in the time trial in Australia at the first world cup of the year. I took 4th in the road race as well. A 2nd and 3rd was very much within my ability but I was feeling sluggish while down under when it came to producing sustained power. It was very warm down there on one day of racing but grateful they started my category early as I have an inability to regulate body temperature when it gets hot. Millimeters matter, although I think it was centimeters, difference in measurement at some joint angles as a result of a few modifications I made. Medals matter as well and grateful I brought one home. This year is going to be very difficult to stay in the top tier of the category with all training for the pinnacle of the sport, the Paralympics.

I stated in the opening sentence that life has been mostly good but it can be rough. I lost three friends over the past three months. Two of them were integral to my life in some fashion. All were spinal cord injuries. It is not easy being a spinal cord injury but then add a secondary complications, trauma, etc., and the toll to them and family all over again but worse. I’m grateful them and how each inspired me in some way.

I’, teaching introduction to exercise and sport science this semester. The university was kind to allow me to only teach one course over the semester to reduce stress and distraction so training can be where it needs to be for the qualification races starting in April. I’m looking forward to a healthy progression to the upcoming races.
