California Training
If you’re not from California it’s hard to explain how awesome it is to ride a bike and train here especially at this time of year. For me this is my favorite time of year to train in California. Cool temperatures and no rain makes for some of the best training weather anywhere in the United States. We’ll this year has been quite different with an unusual amount of rain keeping me indoors for alot of January and February. Luckily indoor training on a handcycle has progressed so much in the last five years with the innovation of smart trainers and the zwift app. For those of you unfamiliar with zwift it is an app that connects to an indoor trainer that simulates the road you are riding on in the virtual zwift world. When you climb up a hill on zwift the trainer applies pressure making it harder to pedal, when you go downhill the pedaling gets easier just like it would if you were riding on real roads. Before zwift I hated riding indoors and on trainers but now I feel it’s something that makes me even stronger. Riding on an indoor trainer feels harder than riding outside, don’t ask me why it just does. However the good thing is when you get back to riding outdoors applying power feels easier and it makes you feels alot stronger. Now that it has finally stopped raining so much in California and I’m back outside the hard workouts feel just a tad more manageable. As I get into a hard building phase getting ready for the selection events for World Cup 2 and 3 i will be focusing on a good balance between indoor and outdoor rides. Hoping to optimize my training and make me as strong as I can be heading into such an important event.
