Relentless Pursuit 23.3mph average speed on 20k TimeTrial: Alfonso Garibay, Jr.

Thanks to God, hard work, dedication, and more hard work I had a great Time Trial at Fiesta Island on September, 9 2018. One of my sisters and one of my nephews came to watch me smash my Personal Record and put in a new Personal Record time of 32:03 that is thirty two minutes and three seconds with an average speed of 23.3mph on the 20k Individual Time Trial at Fiesta Island in the beautiful city of San [...]

Coast to Coast

Feeling excited and blessed to able to race a few more times this year before my season is over.  Thanks to God.  I am able to continue and pursue my passion with faith, hard work, and dedication.  After taking a short break on my return from USA Cycling Para Road Race & Time Trial National Championships on June 13 & 14 at Augusta, Ga. where I raced against some of the best in Nation and in the company of World [...]

Alfonso’s Summer Gains

Summer is definitely here 100 plus degree weather, took a little time off after Nationals but been back training hard for a couple weeks now in the gym and on the handcycle. Thanks to God feeling good and strong. It is my passion to train and continuously better myself physically and as a person.  Had a great time this past weekend riding with some PossAbilites teammates and members. A nice 62 mile cruise to Huntington Beach starting from Yorba [...]

Europe Dreaming

Dear friends, I’m here today to write about my 2 weeks of training in Portugal and racing in Italy. I met Brazil National Paralympic Team for a camp in Portugal, which consisted of eat-train-sleep-repeat. It was quite epic: Country side, beautiful roads to ride, amazing temperatures. These were intense days of swim-bike-run-gym in a state of the art facility that attracts teams of different sports & nationalities. We then flew to Milano and drove to an idyllic place called Lago d’Iseo. Stuff [...]

Alfonso’s 2018 First Nationals

Thanks to Team PossAbilities I was able to go to my very first USA National Road Race and Time Trial Championships. Here is a little recap of how my race went. Despite the humidity it was an experience of a lifetime that I will forever cherish. First stage of Nationals, the Road Race, I earned 4th place in an intense and challenging race with many hills and chances to catch some really high speeds. The start of the race was [...]

Alfonso’s Piru 20k Time Trial

All glory to God. Another great race at Piru 20k TT this past weekend. Despite being sick for the past two weeks and my front derailleur dropping the chain on the last hill going into head winds this being the hardest part of the Time Trial as you are already exhausted but keep going trying to maintain that pace you are aiming for. I was able to quickly recover and put the chain back on the chain ring as [...]

TeamPossAbilities at 2018 Abilities Expo in Los Angeles

Good time representing Team PossAbilities at Ability Expo in L.A. Handed out lots of informative brochures about our programs and met a lot of cool people. We also talked about and showed our handcycles with my teammates Del and Jenna. Del and Jenna did a great job talking about our handcycles and I even did a little demo on how we get on and ride our handcycles.  #ThanksToGodForTheDailyGainz #TeamPossAbilites PossAbilities at LLUMC

2018 CAMTRI American Cup of Triathlon / Sarasota, FL

Hello hello, I just raced the PanAmerican and it was a VERY eventful one. First of all, they changed te date on the PanAm and that was not cool: we got a 6weeks notice –from originally going be hold in Brazil (in June) it changed to US (in March!). Timing on my training schedule was not ideal, but this was all political, what can we do? -Well, on my part I can only do my best, and honestly, I’m grateful I [...]
